Restoration & Preservation

Damariscotta's Historic Cemeteries

Contribute

Here are some of the ways you can contribute to restoring and maintaining Damariscotta's historic cemeteries:

  1. Adopt a cemetery;
  2. Donate funds;
  3. Lend your equipment for volunteers to use;
  4. Volunteer your time;
  5. Organize a work group.

Individuals, families, neighbors, descendants, churches, businesses, civic clubs, and other organizations may adopt a cemetery.  Adoption includes:

  • Active participation April through November;
  • Spring and fall clean-ups;
  • Mowing and trimming every 4-6 weeks, May through September;
  • Notifying the Historical Society of broken stones, trees or large limbs down — anything requiring more than routine grounds maintenance;
  • A 1-year commitment, which may extended for additional years.
