License Information

All Damariscotta/Newcastle Shellfish licenses go on sale on the first business day after June 1 at 10 am. All licenses are sold at the Damariscotta Town Office at 21 School Street, Damariscotta, Maine. If applicants outnumber the number of licenses available, a lottery will be held to determine the granting of licenses to either residents or non-residents as allocated. Applicants must be present to qualify.

Applicants who purchased a Commercial Shellfish license in the previous year are considered grandfathered and may apply for early renewal in the 5 business days preceding the sale date.

There will be a lottery held on the first business day after September 1 for any unsold licenses - Commercial and Recreational. Applicants must be present to qualify.

All Shellfish Licenses expire at midnight on May 31 following the issue date.
