Licenses

Dog Licenses

Please bring proof of current rabies vaccination at the time of registration. If the dog is spayed or neutered, we will need to see the spay or neutering certificate. Dog licenses expire every year on December 31st, and a late fee of $25 is imposed as of February 1st. This is the State of Maine law and not something the Town can waive. For your convenience you can now license your dogs online!

Visit https://www.maine.gov/dacf/ahw/animal_welfare/doglicense/index.shtml  Have a valid rabies certificate on hand.

Hunting & Fishing Licenses

Maine residents must be a resident for at least 3 months to obtain a resident license. For hunting licenses, Maine residents must provide proof of prior license or proof of completion of a hunters’ safety course. Any nonresident is eligible to purchase a nonresident hunting license once proof of prior license, hunter safety course completion is provided. View or download the following resources:

Liquor Licenses

The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen requires a public hearing on all new applications for liquor licenses. Applicants are required to pay an advertising fee and attend the public hearing. Renewal applications need to be brought in to the town office to be added to a Selectboard's upcoming meeting for review and to be signed by the Board. Renewals do not require a public hearing unless there is a change to the application. At this time, there are no town fees for either new or renewal applications.

Marriage Licenses

Congratulations on your engagement! Couples need to fill out marriage intentions to start the process. Please consider using the Intention of Marriage Application (PDF) and email it to Rebecca Bartolotta ahead of when you plan to come in to complete the process. This form must be signed in front of the Town Clerk, or a Notary Public; however, both applicants must sign the official license in the presence of the Town Clerk before the license will be issued. If either party has been previously married, a certified copy of the death or divorce decree, whichever ended the previous marriage, must be presented to the clerk before the processing of the marriage license. A certified copy of a divorce decree may be obtained from the clerk of courts in the county where the divorce was filed. The clerk of courts will certify the document using an embossed seal. A certified copy of a death certificate may be obtained from the clerk in the town of the place of death. The clerk will certify the document using an embossed seal. Photocopies are not acceptable. If you are a Maine resident, you must file intentions in the municipality where one of you resides. Non-Maine residents may file intentions in any municipality. The State has changed the application process for issuing marriage licenses. As of July 1, 2017, we will not process applications after 4 pm due to the amount of time the application process may take to complete. For more information on requirements to get married in Maine, please visit the State's informational site.
